Ok, so this blog is totally appropriate since I haven't written in a while, so I am pretty much FASHIONABLY LATE! Have I missed out on what's in or out, what's hot or not! Probably yes! Well let's have a bit of fun and talk FASHION.
Since it is the end of this very quick 2009 year, maybe I can try giving a run-down of what I felt were the coolest, trendiest, bravest, trends of all. My picks may not be your pick but that's the fun part because you get to see what I thought was hotness! Shall we begin?

- Allow me to take a trip back to January, the beginning of the new year 2009. Think back when almost EVERYONE was rocking an Obama t-shirt, button, hat, even stickers on their cars! People were "Obama-ed" out with the new President's face everywhere. I thought it was pretty cool that this was a fashion statement that many agreed with. You wouldn't have butt heads with the person sitting next to you on the train if he or she had their Obama button on. You might have sat a little closer because you both were rooting for him! Let's face it, even after President Obama was sworn it, you rocked your t-shirt a little bit longer just to prove your Democratic spirit!
- Was it just me, or where I live that everyone wanted to look like Steve Urkel? Seemed that way. Whether I was at a club, or walking around downtown this summer, I saw mostly young men and women with these over-sized glasses, some didn't even have the lenses in them. I still don't know what that's all about but trust me, I've seen it! I thought it was cooler with the lenses in them and a hip outfit to match. Some might have had the Urkel glasses on with a short sleeved cotton Polo shirt and some skinny jeans on, and a cute pocketbook to match. I even saw some who went all the way with the suspenders and bow tie, with the exception of the highwater jeans the Steve Urkel character would wear. Whatever the case, some folks were feeling the nerd look. Ten years ago, their peers probably would have clowned them for dressing in such a way. But this year, looking like a nerd was cool.

- I would have to say the trendiest style this year was Eyeshadow. Yes, eyeshadow. It may sound a little strange to some but truth be told, in my opinion a lot of people seemed to be taking chances and playing around more with their make-up. You're right, people have been jazzing up their make-up for years but to me, some were being a bit more bolder with their look for the face. Even if the shadow looked hideous, hey, at least they tried! But seriously, if you saw someone else's make-up that was on point, you might have wanted to try it out yourself. From using bright colors, to designing and creating an array of colors all together, people tried their hand at it. I'll admit, I played around with colors that I normally wouldn't wear as a shadow like reds, greens, and blues. I didn't even look hideous :-), it was fashionable for me, and for quite a few others.
- For some reason this year I enjoyed being tall. I am already tall, but I didn't mind being a few inches taller. That brings me to knee boots, or high heels in general. High heels were trendy and continue to be as this year comes to a close. Particularly this fall and the beginning of the winter, I enjoy rockin' my brown knee boots with small gold buckles along the side. I feel sexy, and sleek. For me, it adds a little more mmmph (not a word lol) to my appearance. From the winter this past January, all the way through the spring, summer, then fall, boots and heels in all capacities were ways to feel fabulous and stride with confidence. With all of the economic heartache and letdowns, wearing a pair of heels was the thing to do this year in order to feel above and beyond.

- Even though I wasn't too keen on this fashion statement, I still felt it was a brave move. Remember when all of the celebrities and fans of celebrities were shaving one half of their heads and rockin' it like it was the best hairstyle since Britney Spears shaved all of hers off! At first I recall seeing "singer" Cassie shave the one side of her head, then it seemed the trend caught on. It was like EVERYONE with "half" a brain was doing it. Some even took to shaving almost all of it, then put those old school "MC Hammer" type barbershop lines in their heads to add a little more pizazz and spice. Honestly, some people I saw with the hairstyle simply looked ridiculous, while others I felt made it look close enough to being hot! Some may have agreed or disagreed with this style, but nevertheless, it had the reaction the person who was wearing the do' wanted it to have.....it drew attention! Good job, hair shavers!
- GaGa, Ooh Lala! Yes, Miss Lady Gaga is on my list! Talk about brave. This bright new star has made sure she shines and that you see her shine everytime she appears publicly. Her style is crazy, courageous, and creative. I can't even lie, I think somethings she wears is too cool. But then there are other times where I'm like, "What the......??" But to me, that's brave. You've got to be if you're going to go to MTV's VMA's with who knows what wrapped around your face. Come on, we all know she looked like a little kitten who got tied up in the red yarn, and couldn't figure out how to escape. But again, that's brave. To take the chances that she does, in my eyes, is saying something. Her fashion IS a statement of her personality and carefree style.
So, that raps up my fashionable picks for 2009. Of course there were tons of things to put on the list, but these were my choices!
Tear, the year is almost done! So long 2009. What will 2010 bring? Fashion I'm sure.
***Feel free to share your picks of the most fashionable of 09'.
Love,
*Lish
