The Colors of Rain

It seems that on rainy days, there is an array of various colors that I see. Blues, greens, browns.

I feel a somber and quiet atmosphere around me. All I can think about is crawling up in my bed and watching movies all day. If only I could work from home. More than likely, I'd never get any work done! But the thought of working from home is somewhat satisfying.

Blues, greens, browns, and throw in some grays. The colors of rain never seem to be bright and cheery. You would think that on a rainy day, peoples personalities and wardrobe would be vibrant. Even some rain boots are sadly colored. What about some yellows, pinks, or orange!

On my way to work today I was on the trolley. I noticed a lot of people were wearing dull colors. There were some navy blues, army greens, and black. To top it all off, no one was smiling. Its like the rain pours down on you and at the same time, drains a lot from you.

As I sit here at work, my head hurts a little. My stomach is growling. Music is playing, Lady GaGa to be exact. Singing softly to the song.

Greens, blues, browns, there goes gray.

The colors of rain go drip, splash, painting my life in a very vague way.

The colors of rain; some are dark, dreary, and damp.

The colors of rain make me tired, tense, and tired. Oh, I said tired already. See what the rain does to you! :-)

Fashionably Grateful

I find myself often talking about how fashion relates to so many areas in life, well I thought of another one today. I am grateful. I don't say it very often but I am grateful. Being fashionably grateful is allowing me to think more positive and present a more beautiful personality. You can't always be so stifled, it becomes too much after a while. So I would like to say that despite my on and off again worries about the future, I am becoming satisfied with what I have presently.

I made a video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/LISHdoesitWRITE and when I watched the playback, I saw that change that I speak of. Sometimes I think that when you tell yourself that everything is going to be alright so many times, you actually start to believe it. But now I am starting to think that it takes more than that. I think it's more comforting and stress free if we try to practice what we preach. I want to stop talking and begin to do what I know will take me to the next phase in my life.

Day by day I not only tell myself everything will be alright, but I try to illustrate that in my actions. It can be hard, but I am noticing a change in me, a wonderful change. And yes, it's written all over my face.

I just wanted to express the grateful feeling inside me. Though I feel like complaining about the smallest thing, I am beginning to realize that things aren't so bad after all. This feeling doesn't slow me down or I don't hype myself up to think that everything is just great now. I know that I have to continue to press forward with the same drive and determination that I know is within me. Never give up!

I am grateful for my family, my job, life, health, and strength. A few lyrics from a gospel song I know goes something like: Grateful, grateful, grateful, gratefulness is flowing from heart. Flowing from my heart, are the issues of my heart, is gratefulness.

Fashionably Grateful.

Spring Forward! 2010 Style!

Hey there blogging world! I was feeling like I had been bitten by the springtime fashion bug! I began thinking how that time is quickly upon us, so I am acting now by writing about it!

First things first:

Golden Showers

The 67th Annual Golden Globe awards took place this past Sunday with rain and no shine. Despite the sprinkle of rain showers, the show went on. As always, my personal favorite is the red carpet scenery! I love to see what everyone is wearing, and decide what I feel is hot, or not. This year I have a few personal favorites that I felt were right on point with their fashion forward looks! From sequins, to puffed sleeves, the celebs tried to switch it up a bit.

Kate Hudson looked angelic in her all white dress by designer Marchesa. The design of the dress was cut and presented quite lovely. The dress accompanied a bustier, and a dress that was fitted then draped towards the bottom. Hands down it is a very odd ensemble, but I loved it! Her creamy skin popped in the dress and her white chandelier earrings add an extra length to her fabulous look. A+ for Kate!

My second pick was Penelope Cruz. Not many wore black that night and that may have been a good thing because she was in a race on her own with her Giorgio Armani dress. A beaded and sheer display was present at the top of her dress, and as it cascades down, it flowed open like a very beautiful upside down umbrella! The train was layered with lace and top of the line material. Her look was very clean and classy. I thought she looked so pretty!

Lastly, Sandra Bullock in her deep purple strapless dress by Bottega Veneta was very charming. I think this was a good color choice for her and it worked so well! I liked the sheer fabric on the dress and how it flowed at her feet. Purple has been a favorite of mine lately, so I was glad to see the Golden Globe winning actress in this purplelicious look. Her tear-drop diamond earrings added a shimmering touch.

Side note: Drew Barrymore in her nude/sheer/chiffon gown was oh so pretty on her. Go Drew! But what in the HECK was Julianne Moore wearing! To me it wasn't a dress but some sort of a frock! Haha, it didn't look right AT ALL. She could have done without that scrunched "circular collar" that resembled something like Mr. Rabbit's get-up in Alice in Wonderland!

Spring Preview

Get with it. But don't get lost because Spring is on the way! I'm not trying to rush things, trust me, I don't want to speed this year along too quickly! But I suddenly faced the fashion world's music when I took a trip to the mall this past weekend. I was surrounded by the beginnings of the spring wardrobe stock. There wasn't a whole lot out, but enough to get me thinking about what is to come.

So, from what I have seen in the stores, and around me, I think I have a few predictions of what may be IN this spring!

ruffles

I'm no fortune teller but I think we will be seeing a lot of ruffles this coming spring, and possibly into the summer. I'm not sure how we'll be introduced to ruffles, but I'm sure there will be shirts and specifically dresses that will display lots and lots of ruffles. I'm not a HUGE fan of ruffles, but depending on how it is put together, it's something I could rock!

floral patterns

Get ready to smell the flowers because floral prints will be a part of your senses this spring. From my time spent in the mall, I saw different kinds of floral prints whether it was on jewelry (rings, bracelets), shoes or shirts. I think we will see floral prints in yellows, violets, and greens this spring. Ladies, prepare for an array of flowers and colors!

purplelicious

Once again, purple is on my "gotta have that color" list. Purple is actually a color that is fun to play around with. Colors like brown and gold can really bring out this deep color. We might see some deep but bold colors like purple or like a rich ruby red coming our way for the springtime.

hair

It's time for some celebrity to break out with a "New do'!" Not too long ago it was Rihanna bringing back the bob and asymetrical hair, or Beyonce' basically trademarking lace fronts. Then there was stars like Cassie shaving half of her head. But what's next?

Will it be back to the 'Poetic Justice' braids (I hope not), a shaggy mullet *business in the front, party in the back*, (again, I hope not) or some kind of Salt N Pepa type hair cut. I am not sure what the newest hairstyle will be, but I know it's gonna happen soon! We shall see.

head gear

Lately I've been seeing a lot of hair bows and other head bands for accessories. This spring I think we'll see more of it. Not many have jumped on the bandwagon, but I've seen mostly teens with the hair bows in their heads. Some look cute, while others look a little silly. I am not a bow-hater, I think it can be fab if worn with the right outfit. I do not own a hair bow accessory, but I have to look presentable if I purchase one or a couple. I refuse to look like a big ass kid with a hair bow! Anyway, let's see if spring brings more things to dress your hair up with.

Well, there you have it. My likes and dislikes of the Golden Globes, and my very early Spring 2010 Preview.

My video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/LISHdoesitWRITE verbally illustrates my thoughts as well, basically the same, just my face! :-). My blog just goes into FULL detail about everything! Adios.

So Not Caliente'!

Today was a day of some "so not hot" behavior. I felt intrigued by what I was seeing and hearing, I knew I had to write about my thoughts and make a video. Since this is a fashion related blog, these things that I discuss in my video are completely UN-fashionable.
Sometimes you just feel like having a rant and letting some things out. Even if no one listens, it's a relief to release some things that may be bugging you. Here's a break down of what I talk about in the video.

HaIr WeAvE

Yes that's right, hair weave. There's something about a busted weave that gets under my skin, it's BEYOND tacky. Granted, we've all had some bad hair days (I know I have!), but that doesn't mean you walk around with what appears to be a matted over-sized hat on your head. Sounds rough? Of course, but I am only speaking of what I'm seeing! My advice, take care of your hair no matter if you bought it or not. And if you're close to someone who's hair weave is in need of assistance, PLEASE let them know. Yes, be gentle, but at the same time let that person know, the weave is looking a little on the jagged side. lol.

Bitchy Co-workers

BEWARE!! If you have a co-worker or co-workers who are annoying to the extreme, then you can relate to how I feel. I go to work to get a job done, learn, laugh, focus, and yes, make dinero. With that said, if you're a co-worker who dismisses all of those things just to piss me off for the hell of it, you need a life! I refuse to accept your ignorant behavior just because your in a bad mood or because this is in your "personality" to be a bitch. I beg to differ! You work where I work, I work twice if not three times as hard as you do, and we both have the same education. You are not better than anyone, and more importantly, you are certainly NOT better then me! Annnnnd scene.

BrAgGeRs

There's nothing like a person who can't get over themselves. They feed off of making other people look smaller then they are. Yes, you can be proud of what you have, but when you are being over the top and down right stupid about what you have and what you're going to get, I don't have a place for you in my life. Sorry. No one wants to feel beneath anybody. So unless you learn how to humble yourself, keep it moving you braggin' bragger! haha.

Shoulder Bumpers

So, you're walking down the street and some idiot viciously bumps into you like you're invisible. What is one to do? Make a scene and call the shoulder bumper out, or keep on walking and be on your way. In my opinion it all depends. If I receive a very harsh severe bump, best believe I'm coming for you! Yes, there may be a time where streets are crowded and it was no way the person couldn't bump you. However, and that's a huge however, if there is plenty of space for a person to avoid a bump, you're in the wrong. I'm not here to battle over who's gonna move out of the other person's way first. Ok, if we happen to graze each other's arms or whatever, say excuse me, it only takes a few mili-seconds! So all of you deliberate shoulder bumpers out there, you are NOT excused.

Alright that was my raving rant for today! Whooo, I feel better. Whether it's bad braggers, rough weaves, shoulder pushers or bitchy co-workers, it's not hot!

Let's get back to taking care of ourselves and showing some kind of compassion toward one another. Make your everyday life as fashionable as it can be, that kind of energy and approach will never go out of style. Be sure to check out me verbally chatting about what's not caliente', it's equally entertaining! :-)

Feelin' Good

Hey! So, I made a quick video about the outfit I am wearing today. Every now and again I try to "jazz it up" for work and look professional. Today was a day that it worked! I felt very classy and fashionable.

As you will see, my outfit is a black cardigan, white polka-dot blouse, pinstriped basic skirt (that I made), and a cute little pinstriped tie that to my surprise upon picking out the outfit last night, matches! I like picking out my clothes the night before for work. Not only does it save me so much more time in the morning, but it gives me a chance to try things out to see if it will look right on me. I actually hang my clothes up on a hanger and add accessories like belts and necklaces just like a store would. I mean it works to actually SEE how an outfit will look. It can be pretty fun, it's almost like playing dress-up!

So without further ado, check out my video on YouTube of my oh-so professional look for today! Enjoy.

FASHIONABLY LATE

So, my last post I felt as if I was just writing anything. Everything I write is straight from my brain, to my heart, to my computer to type. I was having a weird day and I was basically trying to force words to come out and somehow make sense. Though I was serious about what little bit I wrote, I wasn't completely focused or engulfed in my topic. My apologies for my lack of concentration or unfun "topic"! Now, on to the fun stuff.

Ok, so this blog is totally appropriate since I haven't written in a while, so I am pretty much FASHIONABLY LATE! Have I missed out on what's in or out, what's hot or not! Probably yes! Well let's have a bit of fun and talk FASHION.

Since it is the end of this very quick 2009 year, maybe I can try giving a run-down of what I felt were the coolest, trendiest, bravest, trends of all. My picks may not be your pick but that's the fun part because you get to see what I thought was hotness! Shall we begin?

ThE CoOlEsT
  • Allow me to take a trip back to January, the beginning of the new year 2009. Think back when almost EVERYONE was rocking an Obama t-shirt, button, hat, even stickers on their cars! People were "Obama-ed" out with the new President's face everywhere. I thought it was pretty cool that this was a fashion statement that many agreed with. You wouldn't have butt heads with the person sitting next to you on the train if he or she had their Obama button on. You might have sat a little closer because you both were rooting for him! Let's face it, even after President Obama was sworn it, you rocked your t-shirt a little bit longer just to prove your Democratic spirit!

  • Was it just me, or where I live that everyone wanted to look like Steve Urkel? Seemed that way. Whether I was at a club, or walking around downtown this summer, I saw mostly young men and women with these over-sized glasses, some didn't even have the lenses in them. I still don't know what that's all about but trust me, I've seen it! I thought it was cooler with the lenses in them and a hip outfit to match. Some might have had the Urkel glasses on with a short sleeved cotton Polo shirt and some skinny jeans on, and a cute pocketbook to match. I even saw some who went all the way with the suspenders and bow tie, with the exception of the highwater jeans the Steve Urkel character would wear. Whatever the case, some folks were feeling the nerd look. Ten years ago, their peers probably would have clowned them for dressing in such a way. But this year, looking like a nerd was cool.

ThE TrEnDiEsT

  • I would have to say the trendiest style this year was Eyeshadow. Yes, eyeshadow. It may sound a little strange to some but truth be told, in my opinion a lot of people seemed to be taking chances and playing around more with their make-up. You're right, people have been jazzing up their make-up for years but to me, some were being a bit more bolder with their look for the face. Even if the shadow looked hideous, hey, at least they tried! But seriously, if you saw someone else's make-up that was on point, you might have wanted to try it out yourself. From using bright colors, to designing and creating an array of colors all together, people tried their hand at it. I'll admit, I played around with colors that I normally wouldn't wear as a shadow like reds, greens, and blues. I didn't even look hideous :-), it was fashionable for me, and for quite a few others.
  • For some reason this year I enjoyed being tall. I am already tall, but I didn't mind being a few inches taller. That brings me to knee boots, or high heels in general. High heels were trendy and continue to be as this year comes to a close. Particularly this fall and the beginning of the winter, I enjoy rockin' my brown knee boots with small gold buckles along the side. I feel sexy, and sleek. For me, it adds a little more mmmph (not a word lol) to my appearance. From the winter this past January, all the way through the spring, summer, then fall, boots and heels in all capacities were ways to feel fabulous and stride with confidence. With all of the economic heartache and letdowns, wearing a pair of heels was the thing to do this year in order to feel above and beyond.

ThE BrAvEsT

  • Even though I wasn't too keen on this fashion statement, I still felt it was a brave move. Remember when all of the celebrities and fans of celebrities were shaving one half of their heads and rockin' it like it was the best hairstyle since Britney Spears shaved all of hers off! At first I recall seeing "singer" Cassie shave the one side of her head, then it seemed the trend caught on. It was like EVERYONE with "half" a brain was doing it. Some even took to shaving almost all of it, then put those old school "MC Hammer" type barbershop lines in their heads to add a little more pizazz and spice. Honestly, some people I saw with the hairstyle simply looked ridiculous, while others I felt made it look close enough to being hot! Some may have agreed or disagreed with this style, but nevertheless, it had the reaction the person who was wearing the do' wanted it to have.....it drew attention! Good job, hair shavers!

  • GaGa, Ooh Lala! Yes, Miss Lady Gaga is on my list! Talk about brave. This bright new star has made sure she shines and that you see her shine everytime she appears publicly. Her style is crazy, courageous, and creative. I can't even lie, I think somethings she wears is too cool. But then there are other times where I'm like, "What the......??" But to me, that's brave. You've got to be if you're going to go to MTV's VMA's with who knows what wrapped around your face. Come on, we all know she looked like a little kitten who got tied up in the red yarn, and couldn't figure out how to escape. But again, that's brave. To take the chances that she does, in my eyes, is saying something. Her fashion IS a statement of her personality and carefree style.

So, that raps up my fashionable picks for 2009. Of course there were tons of things to put on the list, but these were my choices!

Tear, the year is almost done! So long 2009. What will 2010 bring? Fashion I'm sure.

***Feel free to share your picks of the most fashionable of 09'.

*Lish
